'Shell and Rock' by the waters edge. A coastal study, medium size, framed, original painting which is a contemporary piece of fine art. It has been painted using delicate overlays of thin paint washes in an expressionist way creating great depth and texture. Natural colours of blue, brown, beige and warm white hues have been used to obtain this slightly impressionistic, semi abstract style.
This painting, for me, evokes memories of times gone by, spent at the British Cornish coast, a place I love. I wanted to recreate the elements of sea over rock to express how water distorts imagery and at the same time, giving it a translucency and depth. The seashells I added is for interest because mussels have such beautiful and interesting form to capture.
The artwork has been painted in acrylic medium on professional primed art board and mounted on 6 mm MDF. The actual piece measures 30.5 cm square. The bespoke frame is made from solid wood and painted with warm white satin paint to complement the artwork beautifully. Because of the neutral and natural colour scheme, it will suit practically all home or work interior to enhance areas of interest creating an interesting and impactful focal point.
