'Sea to Shore' is a large, timeless, contemporary piece of fine art painted in acrylic medium. It is atmospheric, vibrant yet an harmonious painting with great tonal depth and value using colours of turquoise blue, hints of ochre, white and brown hues. The artwork has been painted in an impressionistic but modern style.
The work has been inspired by my time spent by the coast, studying, drawing and 'living the life'. The artwork evokes an emotional response to forms, atmosphere and textures from rural aspects of the British rustic coastline.
For me, what is fundamental in my paintings are light, subtlety of colour, harmony, depth and drama, while still staying true to the subject. In my finished work, I hope that I have conveyed to the viewer a sense of mood, which was present at the time of painting it.
Acrylic is my preferred medium when painting by the sea. Because the quick drying process helps me to work with a more reactive, immediate approach whilst hoping to achieve flow and continuity within the painting. More layers are applied at home in my studio, but the initial painting is inspired by the response to what is in front of me. There is only so long, I can withstand the elements that the coast provides!
The artwork has been painted on a large, square, stretched triple primed cotton canvas over solid wood stretcher frame and finished with a satin varnish for its protection but also to enhance aesthetic value. Due to the neutral tones, the image would suit most home or work interiors enhancing large areas of interest creating an eye catching feature and harmonious focal point.
