'May Ball' is a contemporary abstract painting using acrylic medium. It depicts the scene of people in Cambridge who attend the annual ball at several of the colleges. As always I am inspired by my surroundings and living in Cambridgeshire, the May Ball (which actually now takes place in June, following end of exam) is my subject. It is beautifully atmospheric with many textural and expressionist painterly references.
I have used complementary colour tones of warm blue, pink and grey with dark shades of black to add a deeper contrast. Form and light are the elements in this artwork giving it movement creating perspective with a strong focal point.
It has been painted onto primed cotton 'chunky' canvas with wood stretcher bars. A satin varnish has been added on top of the art for it's protection. It can be hung framed or unframed so that you can choose how to complement your home or work interior. I have added some suggestions (see photos) with inspired ideas. All fixtures and fittings are in place and therefore ready to hang.
