An extra large, original, semi abstract, contemporary landscape painting of the London skyline. Painted in acrylic medium on professional, square, gesso primed chunky canvas. Using both strong and subtle colour tones of turquoise, pink, grey, burnt umber and blue I was able to describe the river Thames and the City of London against a cloudy and moody sky. It has been painted in a slightly impressionistic style which is full of expression and painterly technique throughout. Overall, a neutral palette has been used to emphasise the light and dark of land against sky whilst giving great depth and sense of vast open space and perspective.
It was inspired by my time spent with interest in the capital city (amongst the elements of the changeable British weather) studying texture, contour, colour and form of architecture withing the landscape.
It has been painted in a loose and flowing style creating atmosphere and mood with presence of time and space. The cloudy blue sky has very subtle shades of pink which reflect onto the river Thames where I have used an expressionist form of painterly lines and detail.
In my interpretation of painting a subject I try to maintain the essence of what first inspired me. For me, what is fundamental in my work as an artist is light, subtlety of colour, harmony, depth and drama, while still staying true to the subject. In my finished work, I hope that I have conveyed to the viewer a sense of mood which was present at the time of painting it.
It has been framed with solid wood chunky frame which is white in colour and contempory in style complementing the image beautifully. It is sure to suit many interior settings whether modern or the more traditional and bring focus and interest to large areas of your home or work space.
